Search engine optimization has blossomed into so much more than keywords and links, page titles and meta tags. Anyone can learn and do that.
Today, the most effective SEO covers those basics but also mirrors traditional marketing: word-of-mouth, generating buzz, creating content that demands attention, getting your site and your business in front of interested customers. Sometimes that happens on a search engine results page, but not always. It happens on social media sites, local portals, micro-community sites, and many other places.
That's more than just SEO, it's online marketing as a whole.
